John is a State & Local Tax Partner in the Charlotte office of Dixon Hughes Goodman with more than 26 years of tax planning, consulting, and compliance experience focusing on ASC740, federal, and state & local tax. Prior to joining the firm, John served in tax consulting management roles in three Big Four firms serving Fortune 500 companies in the manufacturing/distribution, pharmaceutical, and utility/energy industries. During that time, John led a state & local tax team on the implementation of an LLC conversion restructuring for a $4 billion foreign inbound chemicals manufacturer that resulted in annual state income/franchise tax savings of $5 million.
John also served a Director of Tax for a $750M foreign-owned manufacturer of corrugated packaging materials for two years where he led the restructuring of their corporate structure along with the optimization of state & local income and franchise tax filing positions with an emphasis on apportionment and tax credits that resulted in annual income tax savings of approx. $1.3M net of federal tax effect. Additionally, John played a leadership role on a national team of a Big Four firm, coordinating the federal and state & local income tax implications of tax optimization strategies, restructurings and initiatives involving apportionment, income sourcing, accounting methods, legal entity rationalizations, and mergers & acquisitions.
